What does it take to be a Bollywood superstar? The answer is still the same, Amitab Bachchan, and Shah Rukh Khan. Look at their life, follow their footpath and you will be a superstar. Superstar is a person that can single handedly handle a movie, concert or a crowd of billions. Most movies now require a co-star, and a comedian, and a semi-naked woman to keep the weigh from the main star off. Back in the days, you didn’t really need that; all you needed was a “presence” of a personality. That presence can still easily be managed by Amitabh Bachchan. His height, bellowed voice, expressions, eyes, and the dialog deliver could only be matched by Shah Rukh Khan, who still comes only 80% close to his aura. These two can still be called the Michael Jackson of the India, because of the magic they hold on people. I personally do not believe that Amir Khan, Salman Khan, Akashay Kumar or Hrithik Roshancan present that superstardom in the industry. Although all these actors are GREAT in what they do, but to be at the level of Amitabh Bachcan; now that is a Universe in itself. Rajnikant has achieved that in South Indian Film Industry, or Tollywood, but even he said, “I may be the King, but Amitabh ji is the emperor”.
I am however a bit disappointed in Yash Chopra and Karan Johar. I picked Yash Chopra because he hasn’t directed film since Veer-Zaara, and I, or we as in Indians are desperately waiting to see a promo which will say “A Yash Chopra Film”. Now, as far as Karan Johar is concerned, if I ever meet him, I would only say one thing to him. “Go back to the family films, because you are a genius at it.” I just don’t understand as to why he is going into making dark flms or semi-dark films like Kabhi Alivda Naa Khena or My name is KHAN. He is a Michael Angelo of romantic, emotional family films, and when I see his talent go back in these other films, it just saddens me as a his biggest fan. Aditya Chopra, too, held that position, but he only made 3 films, where the last one was a bit disappointing, because people were waiting for this man to make his third film. He had that special presence like his father and Karan Johar. KANK did well not because of Shah Rukh Khan or Amitabh Bachchan, but because it was “A Karan Johar Film”. Come on Karan, come back!
